Stamp Mosaics - Monochrome - Abstract
(A tribute to longing, history, heritage and tradition)
The mosaics made from old stamps are works from a multitude of small individual stories that merge into a large whole. A patchwork of memories intended to make us think. "Analog pixels" that transport the past into the present and thus tell a new story.
The selection and arrangement of the stamps creates a collage of nostalgia that invites us to immerse ourselves in old times, but at the same time encourages us to engage with the here and now.
Each stamp has its own story, not only does what is depicted on it cause the viewer to delve deeper into the subject matter, the history of the letter on which the stamp was once affixed is also given new life. What information was exchanged? Where was the letter sent? Who received it? In what historical period did this exchange take place? What was happening in the world at that time?
Each work is a small piece of human history that reminds us how closely connected we all are, how similar and at the same time so individual. A human family across all borders and times.
Overall, the artworks invite us to look beyond the surface and recognize the deeper meanings and connections that lie hidden in the seemingly simple stamps.
They remind us that our identity and our lives are made up of countless small fragments that are put together to form a larger and new picture - a picture of longing, desire and hope.
Mosaics created with vintage postage stamps. Handmade. Ongoing project.
